Junior accountant (student job)

Are you studying and want to start working in accounting? At SmartAccount, we are looking for someone who wants to learn and gain experience alongside their studies. You do not need to have had your first job already.

Start date: December 2026.

What will you do?

You will get to know everyday accounting work through practical tasks, with support from experienced colleagues. We do not expect you to know everything immediately. You will learn on the job and have someone to ask questions.

• Account coding. You will learn to assign business transactions to the appropriate accounts and apply accounting fundamentals to real examples.
• VAT calculation preparation. You will help prepare the documents and data needed for calculations and learn how the process works in practice.
• Document checks. You will review invoices and other documents, check that the information is complete and clarify anything missing or unclear with your colleagues.
• Administrative work. You will help arrange and organize documentation and handle other daily tasks that keep accounting work running smoothly.

Who are we looking for?

• You are eligible to work under a student employment contract and can work between 20 and 40 hours per week.
• If you have no accounting experience, you have completed a secondary school of economics or are currently studying economics.
• You can use English in speech and writing.
• Experience with AI tools based on large language models (LLMs), such as ChatGPT, is an advantage but not a requirement.
• You care about doing the job accurately and ask when something is unclear.
• You like dogs and are comfortable working in an office where they are welcome too.

• EUR 7.30 per hour.
• Support from a team of experienced colleagues. You will learn alongside them and have someone to ask when something is unclear.
• A schedule we agree on together. We consider your university commitments and the needs of the job, then stick to the agreed daily hours. Flexibility here means knowing in advance when you are working and when you are at university.
• Office-based work, with the possibility of agreeing on remote work after six months.
• Five paid days off after six months of working together.
• Unpaid days off for exams. When you have university exams, you can take days off.
• Weekly professional accounting and tax seminars and discussions, because learning does not end when you start a job.
• Access to RRiF, RiF and the books you need for work and learning.
• Free coffee and snacks.

What does the job interview look like?

   Let's get to know each other

   First, we meet online for a conversation lasting 30 minutes. We talk about what you are studying, your interests and what schedule would suit you.

   In the office · Maksimir, Zagreb

   Practical part

   The next step is an office interview with practical accounting questions and one administrative task. We do not expect experience you have not yet had the chance to gain, but we want to see how you think and how you handle the basics.
